The main idea of this sermon is that God gives messengers of the gospel to generations charging them to prepare that generation to meet Jesus Christ and not to pursue self-righteousness.
"Can a person confuse the salvation obtained from self-righteousness and that it imitates and replaces the peace and the power that results from believing in the finished work of Jesus Christ?"
The answer is a resounding NO, that the two are not the same.
